I'm a new fish lover

And I noticed reading posts that many members have ALOT of tanks and not just small ones...Big ones and lots of fish.
Are most of you breeders?
My family thinks I'm out of control becasue I have 3 betta tanks two 2.5 and one 1.5 g that I plan to use as a quarintine tank and a 10 gallon. And although I thought the 10g might be to small I thought it was wise to start w/10 due to my lack of experience.

I live in a 100yr old narrow house w/small rooms that I share w/my brother and his girly friend. Hopefully when I move out I will move up to a med tank w/ a nice stand.

where does everyone find the room? -_-
Kat

Goodness let me say, finding room is much easier said than done. For me at least! I still live at home, and my mom doesn't exactly approve of this hobby, so I get to keep all my tanks in my room. Let's just say I started with one, and now I have 6... all in less than 6 months. Yes, I'm addicted. I didn't mean to end up with so many, but now I have started breeding, and trying different types of fish. It's a blast. Someday I'm gonna get a huge tank when I'm in my own place - I'm thinkin of copying freshmike and going for something like 280... Anyways, so there isn't room for me to put all my tanks, but somehow I've managed - by removing half my bedroom's decorations! The desk has 3 tanks, the shelf 2, and a stool/table type dealie I found in the garage has the 10.

Hi Kat. I have 6 tanks up an running right now, and just called an ad in the paper for a 30g high for my Angels (only $30 with the stand  ). That one I want in my bedroom. Much quieter for them to spawn in. Especially with 2 boys aged 7 and 16 in the house and a Jack Russel Terrier.... :hyper: :hyper:

I have a 10g, 20g, 2-40g and an 80g all in my living room. The 80g actually sits blocking my fireplace (in San Diego you don't need one too often :p ). One 40 is in a corner with shelves above/behind it and a few Orchids getting the benifit of the warm moist air (hubbies hobby joined with mine, neat, huh?!). The 10g Fry tank sits under this 40g. One 40g is between two chairs, on one wall. The 20g is next to the entertainment center, and yes, I watch that more then the TV :D I also have a 2.5g Betta Tank that is sitting on my diningroom table until I decide to bring him to work.

Believe it or not, about 2 years ago, I only had an Aquababies tank with 3 minnows of some sort in it :-( I got MTS BAAAAAAAD

right now, the 10 gal is in the corner in my dining room, the 3 betta tanks take up a shelf on the bookcase in the living room, the fry tank sits on the bar off the kitchen (it was built too high to sit at even stool!!!!), the puffer tank (still in progess) is on a tv stand in a corner of the living room, and the future large tank will go on the bricks in front of the fireplace since thats raised and i dont use the fireplace (i'm like mamaschild, don't really need it here in phoenix arizona). not sure about some of these people here who have rooms dedicated to the tanks (my boyfriend has promised me one of the small spare rooms in teh house in a year or two when its built for fish and bookcases, my other passion, so that they are out of the living areas, the bubbling noises make him feel the need to visit the bathroom all the time  ). then i'll add to my collection. :D

sounds like youdon't have much room. and in a 100 year old house, i don't know if i'd trust the floors to hold the constant strain of a large fish tank and stand....

My tanks are everywhere...42 in the dining room,10, 50 & 120 in the living room,29 & 10 in my bedroom,and bettas everywhere, on the kitchen counters,my desk,entertainment center,end tables,dresser

with a betta betta here & a betta betta there, here a betta there a betta everywhere a betta betta

ahhh, i wish my dad would approve of my hobby. he likes fish to, but when i asked him if i could upgrade my little ten to a twenty he said, "No. You'll waste all your money on that one too!" so i made a point to say i'd be selling the ten and *SAVING* for the twenty, he gave me an evil stare.

but he does like the fish. might not approve of me buying extra Betta bowls and adding new fish to my tank, but he likes them. he's always telling me how all six of my Platties will be dead, and how my Bettas will freeze, and how the Loaches are digging up my plants. well, how does he know this if he isn't watching them?

^^; ahhh... -cough- i babbled. i've got my ten on an old tv stand with the Ferret-and-Fish cupboard underneath it, and above surrounded by plush-things and a desk lamp is the Five-Star's bowl, and on each bureau i have a small tank (Aquaview+ on one, MiniWorld on anoter) the MiniWorld is being sacked, by the Aqauview is just getting moved so i can use it for my growing fry, then King is being moved in next to the Five-Star until i get a third bowl and put a Grrlie or two in between them

hey bettaboyz, tell him "would you rather i spent all my money on drugs/alcohol/cigs/other bad or illegal habits or on fish? its a safe and legal addiction, and hey, i'm learning valuable lessons and skill"

sorry for going on the tangent, but had to comment............... :p

I have my only ten gallon :-( in the smaller living room (we have 2 living rooms in the house, it's a big house) 8) However, only guests and myself use that room. My dream was to have everyone in my family view the fish but, well I guess not.

I'm in a dorm room that's about 10' by 14' (I think). I have the two Bettas, each in their one gallon tanks, on one desk. The five gallon sits on my other desk. The 10 gallon is on a shelf next to the desk. Luckily I have a single room :D  Next, I want a 15 or 20 gallon :) Haven't yet decided where I'll put it, but I'll find a place

 I have no diningroom...thats um my tank room! lol kids & hubby like to watch tv while they eat ( I know not the best family meal ) so when we moved I never set up my dining room table :*) It's really a tiny room that my table & 6 chairs wouldn't fit in so I have the 55 gal. on one wall the 10 gal. directly across from it. then the betta tank is in the livingroom next to the couch on a endtable.

Right now I have 2 empty 1 gal tanks waiting for me to find just the right betta to go in them. oh and I have a 1 gal. tank that I decorated with candles shaped like fish in my bathroom to match my under the sea shower curtian.

My family doesn't understand my fish addiction they just do this----> when I get going on my fishtails as they call them.

We are planning to enlarge the kitchen in the spring and as hubby was going over the plans all I could think about was...if we put the fridge there then the counter could be removed and a new tank could go there...oh & if we put open shelves on this wall I could fit a few more betta tanks in
MTS bad in Virginia

I agree with Many a Molly............better to spend on fish than drugs or alcohol. This is what I tell the idiots at work that laugh at me for my hobby. Yet it is THEy..............that go and buy a 12 pak of beer each night and drink themselves into oblivion each night after work. Now tell me? Who is it that has a PrOBleM??
HAhahahaHHAHAHAHHAhhhahahhahHHHA
I'll continue with my ever learning fish hobby/addiction!!!!
Best ADdiCtIon I HaVE EvER hAD!!!!!

Both my 2.5 gallon tanks are in my bedroom, right in front of my desk lol.

There are plans in the making for getting a 10 or 20 gallon tank for the family room

I have a 42 hex in the corner of the living room, that's why it's a hex because it fits better in a corner. I now have a 2 gal. tank with a Betta on my night stand. Thats it for now....
