I was just wondering how many of you buy a new tank from the lfs everytime you upgrade. I don't anymore unless I have to. For example: A tank of mine started leaking during the winter. I looked for people selling tanks in ads in the newspaper and online but couldn't any close enough near me so I had to buy a tank. If this was during the summer I could have just easily have found one in a garage sale. Where do you guys get your tanks from. Ads in the newspaper, garage sales, online ads, moving sales, lfs, give aways, friends/relatives, or storage place auctions? This one guy told me he got his 200gal show tank for $20 at a storage place just before they were going to bust it up and throw it out. Lucky!

Most of my used tanks I got by word of mouth from the local aquarium club, or auction. You may want to put the word out to any lfs you frequent, they sometimes get trade ins, and don't have room for them. I like the storage place idea, I may stop by a few to leave my name & number.

My fist tank, the 35 I got off a step cousin in law. lol. He gave me the tank, stand, hood/light, plants, gravel, rocks filter, heater, and pretty much anything else you have with a running tank for $75 CAD.

Then I got my 10g hospital tank for free off of the family I babysat for when they moved towns.

I purchased a 5g tank when I was away at college because I missed the sound of the water (and the fish too, of course)

Now I have my 90g that a bought from a good friend since he moved out of his parents and didn't really care about fish keeping anymore. This was more expensive ($400 CAD) but i couldn't have gotten it for that price anywhere around here (1 Fluval 403 canister, and in internal fluval, heater, stand glass top, hood and all the fixings including 2 pieces of driftwood that would easily cost $150 if bought brand new.

Have a go at making your own, I do. Quite a simple task really.
