1-2 gallons is on the small side. I'd go for a 5 gallon to be safe. Make sure you do your bi-weekly 50% water changes to give him the best chance at a long lasting, healthy life. Hikari is a great choice for betta pellets and frozen treats are good once a week for enrichment.
