I want to set up a quarantine tank which, when my community tank is stocked i can convert into a betta tank.

I'm looking for about a 5 gal, with a lid and lighting, something like the mini bows they have in america, only from the uk.

I've looked at the fish r fun tanks coz they're fairly cheap and look nice but they don't come with a heater so thats at least an extra £10 and the filtration is crap so i'd need a filter aswell which is another £10.

Where does everyone get their tanks coz i've searched the internet i can't really find anywhere and i've checked out my lfs's but they're all too expensive?

Also what small filter is best for betta's as i've read they don't like much of a current?

:dunno: I haven't really seen any like they have in the US. You can try the Hagen Mini Elite and they come with a lighting kit and a Fluval Filter - though you might somehow have to break the current if for males in particular.

Hmmmm, everythings better in the us -_-
Thanks, i'll have a search for those on the net and see how much they go for.

I have one of the Elite things and TBH they're not worth it. I pulled the filter out because it was too strong, even on low, and its very dark unless you get a seperate lighting unit which I've yet to find. You don't really need a filter. I've found I really like the 3g's from Wilkinsons, you'll need a heater and a light but a desktop lamp strategicly placed does the trick. Or put it in a light place.

Thats the kind of thing i meant but you have to buy the lighting and heater separatly so it would still work out about £60 :(

Maybe i should order one from america, might be cheaper?

Wilkinsons being the really cheap shop that does everything? We've got one of those but the only tank i've seen is a hexagon one or plastic ones.

Okay, being really thick here but you can't put a heater in a plastic tank can you?

I think so  however do remember that you'll need some sort of convertor for the electrics due to different voltage!

The range sell tanks, £8 for a gallon ranging upto £50 for a 100 gallon tank (with no light fittings ets)

I bought my current tank (5 gal) -

From pets at home for £19.99

and you can get a heater for about £10, gravel would be £4

mines a fry tank so it has a filter (£10 again) but you would be ok with frequent water changes

Ahh yes i've seen the ones at the range, mostly clearseal ones but i don't think you can get proper hoods for the smaller ones.

We've also got a Pets at home which i'm going to visit on my lunch break today.

The only problem is, if i find one i like i'm just gonna want to keep getting more, it's so addictive!

I know what u mean, ive got a 20gallon tank, then i got the 5gallon, now im in the process of splitting off a tank i got from the range (24" long, to be divided up for a couple of bettas :D i think its 8" tall and 8" deep as well!)

Uh ... if you convert your q-tank, what are you going to do if a fish gets sick? That happened to me and I was scrambling to figure out a temp home for the healthy fish in the former q-tank so I could use it.
