I really want a glass cover for my 80cm x 30cm tank so I can use a better light system and allow an external canister to be fitted as opposed to the rubbish hang-on. I don't think my stock hood will let me add a t5 in there and I don't really want to strip out the T8 fixings as I would be paranoid that it would be an electrical hazard. Can anyone make one for me or point me to a company who could please?
Heres a rough idea of what I want:

Stock hood with no room for T5 fitting :(

Thanks in advance

Look up your local glass/glazing company. Most of them can do things like this relatively simply. They're usually not too badly priced until you start asking them to apply silicone to anything, at which point the price goes through the roof.

is there a specific reason you want glass? the moisture fromt the tank builds up and makes it all cloudy/wet which actually hurts the light that can penetrate into the tank... There is a company called bulkreefsupply.com that sells a clear netting with 1/4" holes so now fish can jump out that you can cover the top with, and use a window screen frame kit to make the "frame" for it. This is what I use on the top of my tank, it then allows for perfect like to pass through while keeping your inhabitants in the water.

You could also use just any netting/mesh material from a local hardware store if you can't order from bulkreefsupply

Cheers, yeah I was talking to a friend who works at an aquatcs centre and he said a glass lid wouldn't be a great idea. He recommend just keeping it open top as fish don't really jump unless stressed. But this netting idea sounds good and I'm definitely going to look into it :D
Thank you

If you leave it open top, you could just upgrade your lights to something like this:

Or just use a sheet of 6mm acrylic.
