This is with regards to having a tank made that would either be 4 or 5 feet in length.

Am i right in thinking that pretty much anything more than 24" deep (front to back) should be double-base?

For example, 60x30x24 inches (30" deep)

or, 48x30x24 inches (30" deep)

I really fancy the idea of a 30" or 36" deep tank, the company i use say they will use a double base if 30" deep, which i am not going to go against, i just wanted some more feedback so i could learn a bit more about this kind of thing

thanks

A double base is used when the base of the tank sits on a frame so only the edges are supported, if you have a sheet of ply or another solid material as a base for the tank to sit on you only need a single base as the glass is fully supported across the whole area.

None of my large tanks were built double based, though the 200 has an extra base added to the inside after we cracked the base when moving house.
