Polishing off the glass on my tanks, after giving the outsides a bit of a clean, and I realised that some of you may be unaware of the qualities of newspaper, when finishing off.

Back when I was cleaning windows, we used to hoard old newspapers, because nothing beat them for that final polish, to remove any streaks.
With Thinternet, newspapers are far less common than they used to be, (we even used to get a free rag, full of local advertising, but no more), but it was still worth my while to buy one...just for polishing tank glass.

news....paper... Whats that? Is that like if you print a news article off the internet?

Joking aside, yeah it works great. No smears or streaks and soft enough not to scratch or dull the glass.

Downside is that I haven't bought a newspaper for probably at least 20 years and not sure I would want to give my money to any of them that are available in the UK nowadays. :)

My husband and I have bus passes so he collects the Metro paper off a bus when he needs some for decorating etc. I'll have to steal some from his hoard to clean my tank - and the house windows.

I never clean the inner sides as they just don’t seem to get mucky and I know there’s good scuzz that I need to keep on them

I just scrape the inside of the front glass just before a water change, so that I can see the fish properly. I leave the sides and back alone.

I was actually expecting George Formby singing when am cleaning windows with his ukulele when I saw the title of this thread!

Blimey! Newspapers!! Not come across one of those for ages!! Makes for depressing reading these days anyhow.

But yes, newspapers are actually great for the final clean of glass be it tank glass or house windows.

However if one does not want or have any newspaper available I find that a good clean microfibre cloth does the same job pretty well too!

Just throwing in another option anyways! ;)

My go-to is tea towels made with flour sacks. Flour sacks are soft lint free cotton. I gave up trying to find/keep newspaper... I have a tablet and WiFi now🤣

I always keep a few pages around to wrap fish bags up in in case of moving , re-homing along with some meth blue

Don’t have time to read them though....✈️👨‍✈️ -🐠 -👨‍🍳🍽️ -💩🚽 -:music:🎛️ - 👨‍🌾🌴 all those over reading newspapers any day

I find newspaper very useful for cleaning the outside of the aquariums.....old fashioned, cheap and cheerful :)

My one bugbear with the hex aquariums...the feeding hatch dribbles condensation...constantly. So if not dried off several times a day, its white streaks and dribbles down the front of the aquarium.......obviously the feed hatch was designed by a bloke cos no woman would EVER place on on the sloped part of the hood without some sort of lip to catch the dribbles....two big issues with hex aquariums....they are diatom havens due to having so many corners when setting up intially and the feed hatch dribbles like a teething baby

Ah yes but one could read the paper whilst pooping on the bog?
