When I Put Fish In

what do i test for and when. once i have put some fish in tank???

just bring it up to temp, float the fish in the bag for 30 mins and add a little tank water to the bag

leave it 24 hours then test for ammonia / nitrite

if they read 0, cool beans, test again in 24 hours

if you see any ammonia / nitrite reading, make sure it doesnt go above 0.25ppm by diluting it with water changes

i usually test for a further week and if its all good after that, just test weekly for a month, after that, everything should be fine. I've probably not tested the water in my tank for well over 6 months now.

cheers dude. am i ok putting lfs water in my tank. as it will come with fish.

was thinking about about 10 fish to start with

i always try avoid putting lfs water in, no reason to really. just net the fish out of the bag once the half hour or so is up. unless its the sort of fish that doesnt take kindly to being netted, fish with spikes, plecs etc i find sometimes get caught in nets, which isnt great. i once netted a female bristlenose plec, and she shot all these tiny spikes out of her....erm...cheeks i guess, and got caught in the net. was a nightmare to sort out.

I add a small amount of tank water to the bag every 5 minutes for a good 1½ hours. You are aiming to equalise the water chemistry gradually - that takes a while.

ive only ever let the bag water equal tank water temp time wise. obviously adding tank water during that period, but sometimes as little as 15-20 minutes, with no problems. i will admit, i am more careful with more expensive fish. but even then nowhere near an hour.

Yeah i dont fanny around much when i add fish to my tank, if its good stock it will generally be ok. These days i just chuck in the water and fish too, rather than #14### around trying to net them out of the bag. Some people are more anal about it than me and will claim you shouldnt do it, my reaction is just "Meh".

im just going to chuck them in tizer. i got 4 rams 5 neons a cat fish bottom feeder and to mini plecs. to start.
