When breeding danios,
do you have to condition the female or male?
Or can i just put them with just normal feedings and nothing special?
I have a spare 20g, that im waiting for shell dweller cichlids, but that might be a while so want to do something exciting with it.
Its heated, cycled, 1 internal filter, 1 Sponge Filter connected to air pump, sand substrate(if i breed the Danios, i will add a layer of marbles and some fake breeding plants)
I was thinking about getting 5 Zebra danios and choosing the best 2 males and one female to spawn.
Ive done a fair bit of research but have not come up with anything that says you must get them in the mood.
So can i get some, get them used to my main tank,
and just spawn them with out doing anything special.
I was thinking of raising the temp and feeding on live and frozen foods.

But other then that, anything else?
Any advice/criticizim would be apreciated.

Thanks

DD

As long as your water conditions are okay, Zebra Danios spawn almost continuously. To get a decent sized spawning, you will want to keep the sexes apart. If they are kept together, the females never really fill with eggs, so they only drop a few at a time. The better condition the breeders are in, (both sexes), the better spawning you will get.

Thanks LL.
I will put the females into the breeding tank and males in the community.

Wolf-Yes i have read your website(it actually promted me to start breeding :) )
But i failed to see if it said i must condition the fish first. But other then that, you have helped me alot.

Many thanks,

DD

They don't have to be conditioned.
If you feel this is what you want to do feed for
3 days consecutively with live foods, BBS, daphnia etc.

Thanks again Wolf,
I have run out of flake food so they'll be fed on worms anyway :)

I'll update as i go along.
