When And Why Are Dorsal Fin Erect?

Just wondering why sometimes cichlids have their dorsal fin erect, which makes them look beautiful, while other times they don't.

I may be wrong, but mine usually erect when they're super excited, or about to be fed.
fish are very, very motivated by food. atleast mine are, I guess they learned it from my dog

There are a few reasons but feeding time is certainly one of them. The main reasons are to intimidate other fish or to show off to the opposite sex.
