What's your Profile Pic Origin?

Mine is a painting by contemporary artist Nicola Samori - Maddalena, 2010. I chose it because 1) after several failed attempts with other images, this was one that I could get down to the right size without distorting or blurring it ? 2) it goes rather nicely with my username, which refers to (an angel of) the abyss - also, a tip of the hat to fans of Supernatural From what I read about Samori, after he's done working on the underlying image/portrait, he scrapes off layers of paint and sometimes cuts or tears the canvas itself to create fantastical and creepy distortions.

Your artist's image of "Maddelena" comes from a very long tradidition of paintings of Mary Magdalene ..
Often referred to as "Pentinent Magdalenes." These type of Mary Magdalene images are the ones depicted contemplating a d holding a skull.

Well, for a while I used to have a cool picture of diatoms:

I am fascinated by them!!!
Then I was liking this picture of a flower growing through a crack in the pavement
