i have no clue what is wrong with my tank i had two oscars that died because of high amoniea and nitrites prob because he fish were not eating the food i put in anyways since then i have added all new water and set up the tank usinbg guidlines from this site and it has been a week and the amoneia is higher then it was before and there are still some nitrites presetn i have set up like 5 diff. fish tanks and never had a prob like this what is wrong with my tank?? anyone have ideas???

It sounds as though your tank is still cycling. Patience is the key I'm afraid. It can take a good couple of weeks or more for your tank to cycle completely.

What size o tank u have those oscars? How llong had u been having them.

What kinda food were you feeding them? Beefheart has the potential to really mess up your water, specially in an uncycled tank... What method did you use to cycle the tank? Because it's either not cycled (high ammonia, low/no nitrites) or it was cycled with a much lighter load and the two oscars overloaded your bacteria colony... Either way - like stang1 said - you got to wait it out...

In addition to the earlier suggestions, if you are worried about there being too much food settled in your substrate then get gravel vaccing. If you don't have one then it sounds like you may need one. If you do already have one then vac more efficiently and more often....

sounds like your tanks not properly ccyled, have a read of this
