I'm 19 day's into cycling my 76 uk gallon tank, 12 days since i added 8 platy's, all readings still negative, PH7.0, temp 78.
Afew of the fish are flicking themselves against the plants, other than that they are fine, feeding & swimming quite happily & their gills don't seem red or inflamed.
I wondered if it could be "Gill Fluke" ( i think that's what it's called), just wondered what anyone else thought & what i need to do to help them?

Even though you have a small bioload for the size of tank i would think that you should have seen some readings by now or if not in the very near future. To be sure can you get the lfs or someone else to check your levels as well because bad test strips/liquids are not uncommon.

Are the fish constantly flicking against the ornaments and plants? Is it always the same fish? Watch them closely as it could be the beginning of something ie. ICH

Hi tstenback,
It is the same fish that are flicking against the plants, but it isn't constant. I do sit for ages watching them, it's so fab seeing their different personalities. I'm only a newbie & had a bad time first time round when my hubby overloaded the tank before it cycled, so we lost nearly all our fish. :rip:
Last time our clown loaches had ich & were covered in spots, but the only sympton the platys have is the flicking against things. Maybe i'm being neurotic  but i don't want my babies to suffer! Should i wait a while, or maybe get some medication ?
Afew people have said my bio-load is too small for my size tank, should i get a couple more platy's or just be patient & wait for the cycling to start? I really appreciate your advice, thanks a lot :flowers:
