What's Wrong With My Platy?

well she's a lot better. This morning I did a water change on the fry tank and what did I find?

One single, lonesome, orange platy fry. It wasn't there before that's all I know ... I'm not sure it's still there now tbh.

I'm now left wondering if I should put her back in the main tank or leave her where she is
Was it hers? Glad that she's ok too.

And my swordie is a blood-red, not orange (you've mentioned that your platy is orange like her earlier). Love her ruby-red eyes.

Sad news

I found her this morning nose down in the gravel partcially under the bogwood. I took the dog out vowing to deal with her when I got back - I thought she was dead.

When I got back she'd moved out from under the bogwood but I could tell she was barely clinging to life. She didn't put up any fight when I netted her out and she's been humanely put to sleep with some clove oil.

She was an old lady and I wasn't going to let her suffer a long slow death. I know in my heart of hearts I've done the right thing.

Still a little sad though :-(

Sorry for your loss. It's sad when fish you've known for so long die. What makes me see the bright side of it is that if they had fry, then those will carry on her lineage.
It's sadder when you have a fish you cannot breed but that's been there for many years. Of course, there's still a bright side to that that you will get to know a new fish of the same species if you can afford it. They may not have the same personality, but you get attached to them quickly for their uniqueness.

Thanks fishblast. I'm still a little sad but I'm looking at her three daughters now and they look just like her so a piece of her carries on as you say.

I still don't regret putting her to sleep

I am so sorry that she did not make it, but as you ay her life will go on within her daughters and perhaps granddaughters.

Two of my swordtail fry carry their mother's personality. They peck each other every now and then lol.
