I got some advise on the Betta Forum, but he has weird symptoms. Here are his issues. Please help! He is my only pet, and I love him. I need to know what I need to do so I do not waste time buying meds and trying to fix things he does not have or creating new issues.

He is a blueish auqua betta I got at PetSmart almost 2 months ago. He is in a 2.5 gallon tank w/ a filter and a plastic plant.

Symptoms:
- He has dark gray and red marks on his head, face and gills and on his lower body near his fins. He has some red through his fins too when he is in bright light.
- The discoloration is getting worse over time.
- He darts around when he swims and he is just way too hyper and crazy all of time, especially when I leave the light on. He attacks the sides and corners of the tank and flicks his fins around and swims very fast and furiously.
- He always looks out of breath.

I looked at him with a flashlight today, and he does not really have any white powdery spots or white dusty spots on him.

He is not lathargic, and he is eating just fine. Please tell me what I need to do. I need to fix him and make him healthy as soon as possible so he and I can just relax.

Thank you in advance. This is my fist fish.

YOU'RE NOT CRAZY  keep the light off, I sent you a PM

Need to look at your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Darting and laboured breathing sound like he has a parasite, or its bad water quality.
The grey and red marks on the head sound bacterial.
To be honest the fish is a mess and dosn't sound like he's going to make it.

Red marks and streaks through fins is septicemia hard to cure once it advanced as its blood poisoning.

I thought it sounded like both bacterial and parasite but I'm wondering if it's really that far gone as he's still eating?

I agree, but fish can dart, flick and rub, labour breath also in bad water quality, that why stats are important to make sure it not bad water quality first.

Some fishies will eat right up to the end, bless them. Def sounds like a parastite and bacterial, clean water is the first course of treatment but it'll be touch and go for this wee guy.
