For the past week, this is how one of my neon's stomachs has looked. It's also looked like this three or four times before, and in between those times it's gotten rather thin and deformed-looking before getting back to this look. Would anyone have any idea why in the world my neon's stomach is looking like this? It swims fine and acts normal like the other neons, it just has a very not normal tummy...

Here's a picture of it that I took earlier:

looks like its egg-laden

It definitely looks "different", and I'd suggest more so then just full of eggs. The history sounds odd though. You say it looks like this, then slims right down then gets back to this state. What sort of time scale are we talking about here? How long does it look like this, then how long does it look thin and deformed?

Is it passing waste in the picture or is there something white protruding from the vent?

yes I'm also interested in the time scale, I have neon tetras and one or two of them will on occasion bloat like that after a meal if they get a little too much and will stay that way for quite sometime, but won't bulge out immediately after the meal but a few minutes after so that if you aren't paying attention directly after the meal you may notice it a few hours later and not relate it back ot the earlier meal.

It was just passing waste in the picture.

Its stomach has been like that for about a week and a half now. Before that, it was thinner, but the stomach was still strangely shaped. It's gone from a big stomach back to a thin stomach two or three times now.

When it's thin, it's not exactly like this, but it was very similiar to the way the red line is on this picture:

It goes out and then back in, then back out, like it has two little bulges there, which is why I am under the impression that there is something wrong with it.

I too have one like this , I have had him since April he eats and does all the normal things. Parasites were suggested but he does not get ill, and I am not woried now. The other thing is some are constipated I have used lettuce and cucumber, they also can just be greedy and then not eat so like yo yo diet especially if they eat bloodworms. I say he I have not sexed them. Eggs could be laid and eaten by yours and other fish.
