Ok, It seems he only comes out when I am not in the room because as soon as I open the door and look at the tank I see him quickly swim from sucking on the side to under this little cave thing I have in there and when I watch my fish he never comes out. If he does come out during feeding time he quickly darts back in until I leave. What is up with this guy  ?

When I first got my plec at about 2" I never saw him - I even thought he died, but he didn't. Now that he's about 10" it's much more dificult for him to hide and I always see his tail sticking out from the cave where he lives.

Yup, they love to hide!

I also think they're pretty sensitive to sound/vibration, because sometimes my plec will be on the glass during the day and still run away when he hears/feels me "stomping" into the room.

Mine is shy too. He loves to suck on to the ornaments. They do not move around much

Mine (10 inch) lives in a classroom for 9 mo of the year. He was shy at first (under 6 inches) and all of a sudden he spends half his day watching the kid's antics. I swear he begs algea wafers from one autistic girl in particular. I always give in and let her give him one a day as it is the ONLY time she seeks out an adult for ANYTHING! She brings me a card I made up for her that has a snapshot of a wafer and take my hand an shows me the pleco and puts her hand to her mouth like she's eating popcorn. I ask her if the fish needs the "cookie" and she lights up like she finally taught this "dumb" grown up how to speak. The rest of her day is spent trapped in a non comunicative/intensively noisy world of her own. For that, the rotten poop filled pleco will always have a home, and a piece of my heart!

Wow, went off topic - uhhhhh, give him time, sometimes they get bolder as they get older and larger :D

I only bought mine yesterday and he cost me £2.25. He is only around 2" but is sure to grow bigger given time.

I am already pleased about me buying him, as the tank is looking much cleaner than the last time I checked due to him!

As for being shy, as long as I don't jump about or talk too loudly then he is fine, and when I am quiet he always likes to stare at me.

mine isnt to jumpy or get scared to much anymore even when i have my sterio on it doesnt bother him but the tank is no longer in my room up stairs in my parents room do to me breakin my leg and stayin upstaris

Mine is suprisenly starting to come out more. Yesterday I caught him out've his cave during the day for a good half hour while i was watching, after that though he's been hiding hehe.

I find it depends on the type. my common plec and L201 are always hiding yet my BN, L134 and L018 are always out and about not shy at all!
