Nasty or nice???????

I think apstasia but not certain but probably nasty. Wait for confirmation from somebody more knowledgable but google apstasia and see if the pics come up the same as yours.

Aiptasia for sure. Lots of info around the 'net including in the stickies here. Long story short, they're bad so get rid of it ;)

Definately aptasia, i have one but he is surrounded by my zoo's. So i dont know what to do.
P.S. you can kind of see him in the picture in my sig. on the right side of the rock.

aw. i have the same. first bit of life other than some little less than 1 mm shrimp and i gotta kill it.
so whats the best way

dont mash it because youll just spread more. You can eitehr buyy a peppermint shrimp (natural predator) or fight off with chemicals such as joes juices.

i keep all the aptaisia in my tank down with Joes juice. i usually do joes juice treatments right before i do a water change so as not to upset the PH of the water, however i do have one aptaisia that has grown quite large, and he's well away from my other corals so i just let him grow. they really are pretty cool lookin.

How effective are the peppermint shrimp at munchin' aiptasia? The one in the pic I posted is quite big, would a little peppermint shrimp eat it or just smaller ones?

They're really good at eating aiptasia, you'd be surprised at the size it can take down. Even if it wont eat it, it might be worth mangling it and just letting the peppermint shrimp eat up the babies that will inevitably spawn from the destruction of the one that's too big :good:

My small peppermint shrimp ate all of my apstasia's in three days after I bought it. Excellent at eating them like Ski said. :good:

OK thanks :good: I'll track some down and let them do my 'dirty work' for me!!

Just make sure that what you buy is a peppermint shrimp, not the often mistaken camel shrimp. I'd google each of them and learn to recognize the differences before going into your LFS :).

OK thanks again ski. Think I can see the difference between the two, I'll check out the ones down at the LFS tomorrow

You can spray it with boiling water using a turkey baster thing. :good:
