Hi there,

I have a very sick tiger barb. It is very thin an lately it has been blowing all over by the filter output. Anyway, this morning, I observed that it has some white jelly-like stuff coming from its anus. It isn't the normal fish's waste for sure. To me, it looks like male semen. Any ideas?

If it skinny and something is coming out of the anus it sounds like it could be internal parasites.

I'm inclined to agree. Unfortunately, it is difficult to suggest exactly what because it could be several things. Flagellates, nematodes etc. Whatever, I would assume for now that it is contagious and isolate the fish.

Can you give an idea of how this has developed and over what kind of time scale. Are other fish sick, are there other fish even. How long have you had it? This kind of thing may help.

Ouch! Internal parasites!! I don't like the sound of that at all. I am not sure what do you mean by skinny. It would describe it as shapping like cloud (ie. it isn't paper thin but it is not to round either).

Look like I will have a problem now bec. the white stuffs has fallen off and all disappear into the tank.

Lately, I have a number of fish died. Most of them became very thin and not eating. Eventually, they died. My tiger barb now is basically down to the bone. However, the only other tiger barb are very healthy and full looking. So far within the past month, I have lost 2 serpae tetra(out of 5), 1 corydora (out of 3), 3 tiger barb (out of 5). Aside from that, I have 24 platy babies (isolated but in the same tank), 4 adult platies, 5 oto, 1 SAE, and 3 serpae tetra. These are very healthy so far.

Do you thinka big problem is looming? What should I do? Change water and use melafix????

TIA.

Seems likely that you could have an internal parasite problem. I would recommend a med by Jungle called Parasite Clear Tank Buddies. This is an easy to use tablet form med that you can drop into the tank and it won't affect your bio filter (remember to take the carbon out first though).

If you can identify the fish that are suffering you could move them to a quarantine tank for this treatment. However, it could be that the whole tank is infected so treating that might be best.

This type of med usually works fast and effectively, so hopefully you will be able to save your fish if you act quickly.

Good luck!

Thanks! I will head out to get those tablet tomorrow. I wish that will not be too late!

Also there is another med called clout as well if you can get it in canada, good luck.

I went to my local stores but I couldn't find any fish medication for internal parasite. Is there something else that I can buy from a drug store? I don't mind mixing things together.

Thanks.

What is this worm-free treatment? I can't seem to find that in Canada. Anyone from Canada can give me some pointers?

Thanks!
