Well I deprosted my half a block of frozen bloodworm as usual, but when I put it into the tank I spotted a scary looking insect thing in with it. It was dark grey and had lots of little legs and looked like a wood louse, before I could fish it out it got eaten

Any ideas what it was and if its going to do my fish any damage??

sound like a woodlouse to me :D

Many fish will eat any insect that falls into their natural habitat,
so I don't think that it will be of any harm. I have read on this
forum that some people feed their fish with ants and houseflys etc.

Mine eat spiders and any other bug that wonders into my apartment. My cat catches it first, then it gets a quick rinse and into the tank. They love bugs.

i have something like that but my crab does it. She trys to rip apart gravel....
its funny you can see her struggle to rip it up. Then she takes her anger out on the plastic plants. then she trys to commit suiside by jumping off the filter tube to the bottom of the tank. If i can get a program that can convert .MOV files to .GIF or .MPEG i could show you.

Try the windows moviemaker program. You can take stills from the .mov

Hi Nutmeg :)

This is one of the reasons why I prefer live food.

Every batch of live worms I buy gets a good washing and inspection when I first bring it home and another each day that I keep it. It's not likely something unusual will get past me and into my tank.

Yeah I know Inchworm,
live food at least makes them work a bit for their dinner instead of just lying there waiting to be eaten, but its so hard to get hold of! Only one place near me stocks live food, and then only brine shrimp, and then only on a wednesday afternoon...

Maybe i'll defrost and wash any defrosted food in the future, some of the bloodworm in the frozen blocks looks a bit grey and horrible sometimes...
