Not sure on how to sex properly but the new one was proberly stressed from the move and its colour faded, a lot of fish have there colour fade when they are bought because of being caught and put in a bag.

Venting is the only way to establish sex 100% reliably as far as I know. not normally possible from just a picture.
Allot of hybrid variations around so coloration does vary allot.

They are a low"ish" ph river fish , Congo and Ubanghi tributaries, although you will see em kept with Mbuna from time to time this is not normal for them.

The are extremely aggressive fish and may cause chaos with the sweet little Yellow lab in that picture.

haha i have a strange yellow lab, it likes to live in plants and will destroy anything that goes near his plant >.< its quite amusing to watch feeder shrimp climb in his plant :D

I have kept jewels with labs with no problem, but I suppose ever fish is different.
Generally belligerent and territorial; conspecifics are quite intolerant of each other. However, as you say each fish is going to act differently.

I always become attached to the ones with personality :good: . I was just throwing that info out there so its known.

Yours does look quite stressed. Maybe a background might help it feel safer? (does not look like you have one)

Here is a picture of mine, currently around 4 inches (had it sine it was around 3/4 of an inch 18 months ago). It is a big softie and often snuggles up with my JD

No idea of sex...
