Whats the life span of a beta?

My girlfriend says that a betas (crown betta) life span is only a year, year and a half TOPS.
I find this hard to swollow, and think this is jsut do to poor care of the fish.

Well you could ask in the Betta forum and get more detailed answers but the average life span is between 3-4 years though they don't live past a year often due to negligent keeping.

My oldest betta lived to be almost three years. His name was Ramses.

I have had bettas for three years, and both that died died of a sickness not old age... poor guys. So I'd say 2-4 yrs

My betta lived happily in the community tank for close on 4 years - I think it all depends on how they're kept.
