Hi, just wondered if anyone knew the life expectancy of corys.....? does it depend on the species? if so i keep gold and green striped corys if anyone can let me know
Many variables are involved in the life expectancy of any species of fish or individual specimen. I have quite a few Corys that are 10+ years in my charge and were adults when I obtained them. I know of breeders that have had specimens survive for 25 years. Five to 7 years is a good average. - FrankHaven't a clue if it varies species to species. But I've always read and heard from 3-7years, 5 being quite average.
thanks frank, wow 25 years thats alot more than anyone would have though i guess.... even 5 years is quite a bit more than i had in my head too! are they able to breed for this long or do they get like us and loose their stamina over time? Many variables are involved in the life expectancy of any species of fish or individual specimen. Yeah. I was just trying to figure out my oldest. I would say my C. sterbai are at least 12 years old.thanks frank, wow 25 years thats alot more than anyone would have though i guess....
I would imagine the latter to be the case. I see a few C. sterbai eggs, still - but they are in a 55 USG with my discus - so they don't last for very long. - Frankeven 5 years is quite a bit more than i had in my head too! are they able to breed for this long or do they get like us and loose their stamina over time?
well congratulations on keeping them alive for 12 years they must be happy corys.... greedy discus i guess wont hang around when theres a snack stuck to the glass.....Yeah. Thanks. All my fishies are happy. I think I am up close to 100 species or so. I rarely find a floater. lol.well congratulations on keeping them alive for 12 years. they must be happy corys.....
Nope. They are quite efficient at finding food. That being said, I think they are the next species I will be passing along. I have just started breeding Philippine Blue Angelfish and I can get 3 breeder pairs in a divided 55. - Frankgreedy discus i guess wont hang around when theres a snack stuck to the glass.....
Be careful what you wish for. - Frankfrank i would dream to have as a diversity of fish as you do

Generally at a year, but most of my experience points to nine months or so. Still, for the average, a year is a safe bet for maximum egg production and viability. - FrankFrank, at what age are corys classed as mature adult fish able to breed?
