Hi, just wondered if anyone knew the life expectancy of corys.....? does it depend on the species? if so i keep gold and green striped corys if anyone can let me know :good:

Haven't a clue if it varies species to species. But I've always read and heard from 3-7years, 5 being quite average.

Many variables are involved in the life expectancy of any species of fish or individual specimen. I have quite a few Corys that are 10+ years in my charge and were adults when I obtained them. I know of breeders that have had specimens survive for 25 years. Five to 7 years is a good average. - Frank

thanks frank, wow :hyper: 25 years thats alot more than anyone would have though i guess.... even 5 years is quite a bit more than i had in my head too! are they able to breed for this long or do they get like us and loose their stamina over time?

Yeah. I was just trying to figure out my oldest. I would say my C. sterbai are at least 12 years old.

I would imagine the latter to be the case. I see a few C. sterbai eggs, still - but they are in a 55 USG with my discus - so they don't last for very long. :( - Frank

Thanks. All my fishies are happy. I think I am up close to 100 species or so. I rarely find a floater. lol.

Nope. They are quite efficient at finding food. That being said, I think they are the next species I will be passing along. I have just started breeding Philippine Blue Angelfish and I can get 3 breeder pairs in a divided 55. :) - Frank

good luck with the philippine blues they are really gorgeous angels :good:

Frank, at what age are corys classed as mature adult fish able to breed?
Generally at a year, but most of my experience points to nine months or so. Still, for the average, a year is a safe bet for maximum egg production and viability. - Frank
thanks again Frank :good: and happy christmas :hyper:
