What's the best "this is how Bettas live story" you've heard?

I had a LFS fellow tell me that Bettas live in elephant footprints in the wild and travel from footprint to footprint. So everyone with a Betta better keep a lid on their tanks or we might have a full scale invasion and the Bettas will take over from the alligators in NYC's sewers.

All of the stories I have heard were the basic "They like to live in small cups" bull crap. But I did have some girl tell this customer, "When a male betta has ripped fins and they are spread apart real good, that means he is really healthy so you don't need to get any meds for him at all. See you can even look at our betta's in those cups over there. Their fins are all spread apart as well and they are really healthy and happy."

My first reaction was to go over there and slap her...but my boyfriend kind of talked me out of it. :grr:

Nothing yet, but I can imagine.... Something along the lines of 'Oh, its normal for bettas to have all that white fur on them. They have special organs so they can breathe air, because they are halfway into evolving into mammals!'

How about this one..

I found a dead betta in a cup once, mouth pointed towards the top of the cup.
Brought it up to the girl at the counter, and she goes "Oh, it's not dead, he's just getting air from the surface!"

So I swirled the cup around a bit, and she watched the betta not move and bob in the current.

"Oh.. he's dead."

Obviously.
