ive noticed this morning that one of my males has 'salt' on his face and a little on his fins. what is the best way to treat him? i know i cant give him salt (or so i have been told anyway) and im wondering if melafix would be enough.

medications i have here are:

melafix
science products broad spectrum anti biotic
science products fungus and finrot remedy
science products three day white spot medication and
science products multi purpose medication

what should i do? i dont want to lose him :( hes a good breeder :)

i dont know where this came from unless it is still backlash from my heater over heating. water stats are good: amm 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 5 and pH 7.2. nothing new has been added to the tank except for fake plants that were cleaned properly before going in. could it just be the after effects of my heater disaster last week??

If the fish looks like it been sprinkled in salt yes it whitespot.
The whitespot med.
Turn temp up to 30, increase aeration in the tank as the high temp and med will reduce 02 in the water.
Read instructions carefully that you can add the full dose with the fish you keep.
Don't forget to remove black carbon if you use it.

ok, i didnt know how long it would take to get a reply so i have put him in the hospital tank with melafix. should i drain that tank and start again with the white spot meds?

also, there is a bubbling sponge filter in the tank and the tank is 30L. would that provide enough aeration or should i add another air stone?

also, should i treat the tank he came from? im assuming i should as its obviously in that tank.

just one question and this is only so ican know why but why do i turn the heat up? i thought higher heat allowed these types of things to grow easier.

anyways thanks for your help so far disease lady :p that doesnt sound very good does it hehe

White Spot/Ich (Same thing) attacks at cool temps. Thats why its recommened to never let water fall below 75. Raise is to 80-84 and have a few air stones, or a air stone thats like a line of air stone. Hard to describe. Treat the tank both tanks and only use it at half strength. Other fish without scales are usually die because of the meds rasther than the disease. Malachite green is one factor of this.
