What's the best substrate for a Gold Spot Pleco L001/L022 Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus?
[*]Coarse gravel
[*]Fine gravel
[*]Mixture of both?

Started with fine gravel in half of my tank and Argos playsand in the other. Initially had 3 cons 2female, 1 male. Recently added a spotted plec and he's relandscaped the tank, shifting sand all over the place with his tail until the gravel became buried in sand.Should I replace the sand with gravel?

Come on guys -does anyone have any ideas/experience they want to share? Need advice as he's currently raising a sandstorm every time he swishes his tail (have a sneaking feeling he's doing it on purpose)Everything's covered in sand -rocks,wood, plants, ornaments

Sand is best, having a mix of the two is just a pain...it mixes up and eventually the gravel just lies on top of the sand. Your plec will be fine with either sand or gravel (although he'd probably prefer sand)...having both won't bother both him but it's a pain in the **** for you.

My plecs primarily rest on wood or the glass, I think you should keep whichever is easier for you. Personally I keep gravel as I find it easier all round.
