I was at the pet shop early today and they have some discus on display. I've been thinking of having discus in the tank (not setup yet) but every time I see them in the flesh, they seemed like boring fish. they don't seemed to do much.

maybe you can enlighten me??!! thank you :)

the eye of the beholder?

just because some people like them doesnt mean u have to copy

true. but there must be something in discus that numerous/countless people find attractive.

Their colors. They are a graceful fish. They aren't like tetra's constantly flying around the tank. They are more like angelfish, gracefully swimming through the tank.

Colors are why I find them so pretty. Aquarium Strains and wild strains. Colors are pretty. IMO its the most naturally colorful fish out of freshwater fish. Not may species can very so much in colors and patterns.

Besides all the other things that have been said about how pretty, colorful, graceful and majestic these fish are, they also have unique personalities. They appear to watch you and greet you when you approach the tank. The are puppy dog fish. All the work is worth it for the joy and beauty they possess.

For me its the challenge of keeping them.

Kept a lot of other NW cichlids and have successfully kept them but the discus offered me a challenge i have never tried so thats what it is for me.

Plus at the moment i cant keep oscars as i live in a first floor flat and i dont want to risk the floor, would LOVE a 100g tank but im afraid i cant, if i could get a big tank in my living room, i certainly would without a doubt =-)

I got a 90g on a second floor apartment and mine is fine. In fact I have a heavy book shelf and filled 30g tank beside it too and my floor is fine ...so far anyways... :p

Well i have just added up the tanks i have in the main room, 3 tanks in total, 1x190L 1x96L and 1x56L...

Me thinks im selling them all and getting a 90g for some oscars :D
