Whats Growing In My Filter?

i opened the top to the power filter on my oscar tank and found some weird things. I see snails and clear gel pouches growing on the inside of my filter housing..what are they? snail eggs? how did they get there? the tank doesnt have a single snail in it, but somehow they appeared in the filter housing...is this beneficial for filtration or a problem?

They're snail eggs, pond snail eggs. Looks like you must have had a couple of snails doing well in your filter. If you dont want a snail infestation i'd get rid of them. Once they start breeding in your tank it's real hard to get rid of them.



The snail probably came in on a plant of something you've added to the tank.

whats the safest way to get rid of them

Just scrape the eggs out however you can, make sure nothing is left. Be quick too, the eggs dont take long to hatch then you're in trouble
