Hi - I've an area of sand that's suffered all the usual problems in the past, and whilst this is all under control, there's always a trace of cyno. I thought if I made my next addition to the tank something that likes to move sand about it might just be what's needed to make this corner more attractive. It can't be too thorough though because I've got a Christmas tree in that spot and there's no other spot I can move him to.

I'd be interested to hear any experiences of fish/ critters that have worked well in other tanks - thanks

I have a sand shifting star fish and works fine in mine!! and a plus you get nice star shape figgers in the sand wares its been .

how big is the tank, i have very rarely heard success stories on sand sifting starfish in under 100 gallon tanks.

well its a 50 gallon, and yes I figured the starfish would need more surface area - they can get quite big and I've a fair bit of rock in there. thoguh I would love one!! As for snails, I was hoping for something more charismatic  Isn't there a blenny out there or something that likes to play in the sand?

wrasses sleep in the sand, some gobies tunnel the sand, same with a pistol shrimp, uh... thats all i can think of right now but there are plenty.
