What's going on with this fin?

I've had this green glofish (skirt) tetra for about a month now. He's a long-tail variety. He's doing well but around Christmas I noticed that he had some spots on his tail fin. Some of the nice folks on this forum said it looked like excess mucous from an injury. I've been keeping an eye on it and keeping the tank really clean. Water parameters are good - no ammonia or nitrites, nitrates below 5 at all times. I also replaced all of the plastic plants in the tank with silk plants as I thought he might be scraping his tail on the plants and causing damage.

So the first photo below is from 3 weeks ago when I posted about the spots (excess mucous?). The second photo was just taken today. I just noticed the tail fin appears to have split in the middle. How serious is this? And is there anything I can do other than keeping on top of water changes and making sure the water is always super clean?

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
