Hi, All would like some advice from a experienced members around these forums.
I recently set up a small 10 gallon, saltwater fish tank, set the salt in the water to read right in the hydrometer then decided to add live rock with the sand. let the rock sit 5 days to read right and it did as well, so decided to try some tester fish fish, 3 to be exact of who knows which type but theyre in the pic.
1 died after 4 days its been about two weeks now and the other two are doing well, decided to try some bubble coral. (pictured) It still bubbles but heres my concern just yesterday morning when i woke up i seen brown markings on the sand as well as my rocks were have turned a darker brownish red color on them i was wondering if i had Cyanobacteria or something soemone knows of. please help.

sorry ill try posting pic again later my servers down and it doesnt allow me cause of member status.

Your fish probably died because your tank sounds so new. 3 fish in a 10 gallon tank sounds excessive, especially now you just put in live rock. Know your fish before you put them in, dont take the word of an LFS (local fish store) employee, you need to know what your buying, and if they will suit your tank.

Your live rock should do cycling for you, you dont need fish. :)

You need to buy some test kits. If you dont want to, you need to take a sample of water in a jar and take it too some LFS's, they might test it for you for a small fee or for free. Deffinatley know your parameters before you adds anything like corals or fish.

You shouldnt have a coral in such a young tank. It might be able to survive for now, but just hope it does. They need mature, stable tanks, with decent lighting.

It sounds like you do have cyano or algae. Get some clean-up crew like hermits and some snails, to demolish it for you.

Keep what you have for now. Let things settle down. I suggest you read through some threads here in the Nano section, to get a basic understanding of how other members et up successful tanks in the past.
