Currently have a honey sunset gourami, BN pleco, and today I bought a small black angelfish which looks great and healthy. I have a 25 gallon tank that has been cycled for over a month with live plants and plenty of rocks.

I am considering getting a rainbow/red tailed shark, a bolivian ram and a blue or dwarf gourami, but is there anything else I can get? I do not want to purchase any cories or smaller tetras or any tetras in general such as neons or glowlights.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

If you get a shark watch it they can be a real pain in to neck if they start harrassing other fish n watch ur angle with gourami as we had a 300ltr with a dwarf gourami and it did nothing but fight with the angle and ended up killing gourami.

I at the moment have just set up a planted 27gallon tank and i have a med size angle n its working realy well with the inhabitants wish are:

1X BN PLECO
3X ASSORTED PLATIES
3X FEMALE FIGHTERS
1X PAIR OF RAMS
1X MED SIZE MARBLED ANGLEFISH
hope it helps

Ye thanks ash, I've had rainbow sharks before but I just don't know how they behave around gouramis and bolivian rams. I also bought a sunset platy today.

=)

the shark should be OK will all fish that don't look like sharks... But, they do get a bit bigger (as do Angels) so am not sure how they will get on in your 25G.

I also would get more than 1 platy. They will be much happier in a group

heyy
first off i would not get another gourami if you already have one type in the tank, they will tear eachother apart (well unfortunatly that was my experience) If you absolutely had to have more you would need to upgrade to a much bigger tank and put a few more in of the same species(e.g. red robins), although even that would be a big risk.

Secondly (also in personal experience and the advice of many experts) if you do have a red-tailed black shark or similar i would strongly suggest putting it in as the last fish into your tank. They can get very aggressive to new tank mates (or 'intruders') and it can result in death. So if you add it last you should never have that problem.
Do you mean red tailed black shark?
How long is your tank?

Sorry i didnt mean to sound critical or anything i just wanna help you out :)

Oh and if you are looking for some bottom-dwelling fish and you do not want corys i would suggest a group of loaches. personally my favourite are kuhli loaches but whether your angel might pick on them i am not sure. I have 8 of them right now and they are pretty much my favourite aquarium fish. Anyway there are plenty to choose from! although i would stay away from clown loaches they grow pretty darn big and will put a huge strain on your bioload ( all loaches MUST be in groups of atleast 5 or 6, the more the better and its makes them far more active playful)

Feel free to pm or email me if you are stuck with anything
Hope this helped ;) x x x

I'm not sure a shark would fit in there, they need about 30+ gallons.

Oh and the "glowlight" your referring to is actually a striped Danio.

Thanks for advice Mrscullen and hihi. This is my current stock so far..

1 black baby angel
1 honey sunset gourami
1 ranibow shark
1 sunset platy

My rainbow isnt agressive so far and just prefers to hang out in its cave and juts scurry around. Ive had rainbows before and never had problems with the besides them being good jumpers lol.

About the gouramis I dont think they are that aggresive towards each other but Il keep any eye on that.

I might take a look at some kuhli loaches too, do they need to be kept in groups?

Atm planning on getting a blue gourami or dwarf gourami, BN pleco, and another platy or swordtail

Kuhli loach need to be in groups of minimum 4 I would say but would be best to get around 6 or more, because it will make them feel more secure when they see the same species. Other wise even in groups of 4 they will tangle around each other to stay together. Also you need fine sandy substrate as they like to burrow and also keeps them feeling safe and you are likely to see them more.
I've kept rainbow and red-tailed sharks with kuhli with no problem but still you need to be cautious. The red tailed is more peaceful than the rainbow and also never get anything similiar looking to the shark like a sucking loach or flying fox, in my experience I've had many problems just constant fighting and one dominating over the other.

your welcome!

with the shark sounds like you are lucky although its main red-tailed black sharks that do the aggressive to intruders thing.

As regards the gouramis if you realy want to try putting those different species together then you can but it very risky, especially if you get males (which would probably be the case with the dwarf gs because the males are the ones with colour) good luck with that! let me know how it went.

Oh and with the Kuhli loaches (i assume you are talking about pangio kuhli - the stripy ones) they should be in groups of atleast 6 if you want to see them in the day. The more you have the more confident they are, is almost like they think that if they are in a big group they can take on what ever is out there :) hehehe its really quite sweet.

I have got several groups and my best group at the moment is a group of 8 youngsters they are bonkers but absolutely fantastic fish if you know what you are doing with them and they really will become one of your favourites i can guarantee you! it saddens me that people will by just 1 or 2 of them even just a trio because they think they will be alright that way. it really isnt the case they prefer to be in groups with these guys . . . its that they MUST!

Anyway here are some super links that should help you a great deal (btw one of my favourite fish websites is 'aquahobby' they have all kinds of fish on there and for every profile you get aload of comments from people who have had the fish and there oppinions) -
