For a smaller tank. Generally between 1 and 5 gallons in size. Females are smaller, aren't they, but males have heavier fins... Or is there no difference? Also, if I get the 5-7 (I can't remember which) tank, and made it into a mini-albino setup, would a betta prefer plants or rocks? I can d both, but I bought the wrong kind of substrate (oops, stupid impulse buy), and I figured it might be a good excuse to a) set up another tank and B) maybe order off bettaman.

Either or...

Females or males do fine in any size tank 1 gallon or bigger.
I have taken quite a liking to my girls. They have lots of personality and "spunk" if you wanna call it that... or you could call it major hagginess, too.

If your tank is a 7 gallon, you could even try a small grouping of girls, like 4. (Hoping you don't have a major beeyach in the group) :)

Females are smaller with the shorter fins. Males are generally larger, and most available (other than Plakats) have big, long, flowing fins. Neither mind smaller tanks, really, more than the other.

Bettas love plants, but they also love rock caves, too. Probably best to do both if you can manage it.
