What would you get for a new 20g?

Okay so matching tank #2 is a reality ..... I am in the process of setting up 20g planted tank #1 and another vendor came through with a matching tank and stand which will be in within the next week. Soooooo.... I'M GONNA HAVE A FISH ROOM!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!

I have a little time as I'll need to get the tank planted and cycled and all that good stuff, but I really want to finalize my stocking plan so I can choose the substrate and decor that's best for the fish.

I was thinking of a really colorful pair of apistogrammas like the male pictured below along with a school of ember tetras. I never would have considered the apisto if not for a suggestion from one of you kind folks!

What do you think about this idea? Any other suggestions? I am still intrigued by the small puffers but not sure about the feedings. But I can still be swayed!

Other ideas - honey gouramis with some school of tetras. Or german blue ram with I don't know what else.... what would you pair this with?

I am very happy that you can have 2 80 liters aquariums, and I am even more glad that you like my suggestion of the apistograms, I keep saying that South American fish go better with South American fish and so on, so I would go for the option of the apistogramma cacatuoides triple red with some species Tetra of your choice (if that is the ember tetra then go ahead), in my opinion I would say that the second aquarium you do should be with the plants and the style that I recommended at the very beginning of this thread.
by the way, which puffer fish did you pick for the first one?

So the first one is already pretty well determined. I am going with 6 sterbai corys and 1 betta. If the betta doesn't take to the corys (which will be in the tank first) I have a small tank I can move the betta into where he will live out the rest of his days in happy solitude.

The puffer(s) would be an option for this second tank I'm planning now but given their dietary requirements I am leaning towards a pair of apistos with a school of ember tetras. I'm going to be reading up more on them before I make the final decision. I probably won't get to set the tank up until March. It's fun to have time to plan it all out, have patience, and get the tank set up as best I can for the new fish.

Keep the suggestions coming! Super excited that the second matching tank and stand came through and really want it to look amazing.

in the case of the puffer fish the arrowhead puffer does not need shellfish but still need a meaty diet, so maybe they are the better puffer option?
