i used to have a male and female pair of these shrimps, was never told what they were called as i rehomed them for somebody ditching his tank. the female was pretty plain looking, slightly blue. the male was far more impressive as seen in the pic. quite a vivid blue with one big 'hairy' claw and one normal small one, like a fiddler crab. heres a picture of him after he was unfortunately mutilated. id like to get some more as they looked great and will be going in a different tank this time. if i can find out what it was i might find out if its a suitable community shrimp.

Blue Crayfish?
If so, these aren't suitable for community tanks as these make a meal out of fish! :fish:

hmm, googling 'blue crayfish' im not convinced thats what it was. i might be wrong, but other than its blue and shrimp shaped i dont think its very similar. the female was very 'shrimp like'. unless they were very very young, i couldnt find pics of young ones so dont know.

they definitely didnt hassle any fish, i hardly ever saw them. i also had to ghost shrimp at the time and they never got hassled either. they shed their 'skin' (if thats what its called) if that helps. as you can see it was very small, only about an inch and a half max. the female was a bit smaller.

i still think its a blue craw fish
by the looks of it .it had substantial
pincers

Hmm
I Spy With my asian eyes
1.Furry claws
2.one big claw and one smaller one
3.Non transparent shell

Might it be a Yucatan crayfish?

Vampire/Armored Shrimp

It can't be a vampire its got pincers no clear filter mediums although if it is housed inappropriately then it will pick up food and damage its filters.

machrobrachium would be my bet in which case its the devil.
