What type of fish to breed?

I have an empty 30 gallon tank, which has been cycled for over 6 months now and was wondering what type of fish i could put in it which are beautiful and easy to breed?

Anyone any suggestions?

I would go for Blue Rams or even angelfish. A NW cichlid would be my choice

Get 6 juvies and let them pair up on their own if your lfs will take the other 4 back. There are LOTS of good articles on the web about breeding angelfish.

as someone already mentioned blue rams would be a good choice....most fish stores sell them for between $4-6 US...but the demand isn't as high as angels due to their popularity (or lack there of)

amgels are fairly hard to keep though! aren't they? what should the water parameters be for angels?

Kribs? Keyholes, rams, most dwarf cichlids for that matter... Gouramies (though you'll need an extra tank to actualy spawn them in and later you can use this tanka s a grow-out for the fry and permanent home for the parents). Killifish, cories, barbs or danios (you'll need an extra tank for the parents), all sorts of livebearers, badis badis, shelldwelling cichlids, some malawi cichlids such as yellow labs... you could even breed discus if you could find a proven pair and were up for the water changes!

Angels are easy to keep - especialy the more common varieties - as they have been bred in all sorts of water parameters. I suppose the optimum would be between 6 and 7 but I've seen angels kept in very hard water up to 8.5 and I have water with a pH of 8 and have never had problems with angels. Of course there's altum angels which are somewhat more picky...

6.4 would be perfect for angels, rams or any other NW cichlid

Kribs are a good idea too! They're African river cichlids, but are often kept with NWs b/c of their water preferences.

Angels, rams, etc - all the NW cichlids (except Severums, and you wouldn't want a pair of sevs in a 30g anyway) are pretty easy to breed and are protective enough of their fry (generally) that you can raise the fry in the same tank as the parents.
