I went to my lfs today and saw this one corydoras, the guy said it was just a regular bronze but i am not sure... The cory is darkgrey-black in body color with the part of the tail that is connected to the body being the blackest part of the body. The fins have an orange tinge to them. Does anyone know what cory type this is? I looked on google and i think it might be a black aeneus but im not sure because most of the sites i find are in some other language so i cant really know if the black aeneus name was refferring to that one or a simlar cousin. So, any help?
This is the fish that used to be called a black C. aeneus, but these days it's called C. schultzei:
Another cory with a dark gray or black body and an orange tinge to their fins is the C. concolor:
If you have found either of these corys, and have room in your tank, they would make a fine addition. They are not seen too often at the lfs.
The wild caught C. aeneus (bronze) varies somewhat in appearance depending on where it originated. The farm bred variety is the plain green-gray fish that most people are familiar with.
yeah, i have a 20 gallon planted tank cycling right now with a sand substrate and i think their color will make a good contrast with the peachish colored sand.
thanks again
edit: also, am i correct in saying that this corydoras is a color morph? Because if it is, would the info on C. schultzei be the same as the info for this one? I just want to know this so i can research xD
Yes, it's a variation, line bred for color, of that fish. Here's a place to start reading, but the name change came about fairly recently, so look for older material under C. aeneus too.
