Its a plec ;)
Possibly a Sailfin (20" + tank buster)

do you have a more in focus piccy?

Will try when I get home later... would he be ok in my tank? How big do they grow? The tank is this... Measures 50x25x30cm, Contains 35 litres

 sorry blonde moment there. P@H have really messed my tank up here, I've ended up with two kissing gouramis who are going to outgrow the tank real soon and a catfish who will too :(

well don't ever trust pets@home...they're useless. Personally I'd return the fish to them, while also giving them a piece of your mind, and then find another retailer. If you state where you live someone might be able to recommend a good lfs near you..

I tried to return the kissing gourami and they wouldn't have them back, have reported them to the animal welfare at the council because there were also dead fish in the tank and they were covering the information over on the gouramis and I tihnk it was deliberate.

I live in Warwick/Midlands (UK) if anyone knows anywhere good? There's a Maidenhead aquatics, does anyone know about them?

hi hun
maidenhead are a fantastic shop to get good advice, in lincoln ours is great i always shop there, i would never go to pets at home, i cant understand why they wont have the fish back they sold you when they gave you fish that are totaly wrong for your tank :X shame on them. looks like the chances of mr pleco being a big un is high im affraid, pets at home dont ask what tank size or other fish you have unlike our maidenhead, i went in for 3 clown loach and he wanted to know how big my tank was, try the sell/swap section on this forum someone will have the kissers im sure :)

Am waiting to hear back from my friend who's school she teaches at has a massive fish tank as they might want the kissers, if not will put them on here. I liked the people at Maidenhead, they seemed to know what they were saying. Will go in there at the weekend.

Is it ok to keep the catfish until he gets a little bit bigger as I really like him? What types of catfish or that type of fish would I be able to keep in my tank?

Hi Beth,

I had a clown pleco in a 35litre. They stay small and look pretty - although probably you'll be told that they need to have a bigger tank. They poo for Britain and need wood to chew on. Oh, and hopefully you'll get one which likes to come out and play - they are quite nocturnal!

I'll second the praise for Maidenhead - there are two in Swindon and both are good - they are starting to know me as a regular now - if you can get a good relationship with them, they will look after you!!!

In all honesty, I wouldn't recommend the catfish. Being in a small tank can stunt their growth...to the point where you may never know when you should get rid of him. I'd rather see you find a fish you like that's in your size range. ;) I can assure you that there are plenty of plecos out there, and quite a few have that look to them or are considered much prettier.

In a 35 liter, 10 gallon, tank I'd recommend something that stays fairly small. I have a few Otocinclus in a 10 gallon and they are quite happy in there.

Here is a link to planetcatfish. ;) That site can also help you find a few dwarf species of pleco that would be suitable for a tank your size.

I have a pitbull pleco....grows to about 7-10cm I think.....I was told 7cm.....they are pretty cool and don't hide that much either....they prefer to be in groups of 2 or more i am told, but mine is currently on his lonesome.

Pitbulls will normally grow to 7cm ish but I have 1 male (obviously the dominant one) that is 10cm ish

Maidenhead in Lincoln (Whisby) is quite good and clean with a decent range of fish and equipment but it is quite new and I remember how the Fish section at Whisby Garden Centre was before Maidenhead moved in with dead fish floating everywhere.

I hope they can keep it up.

There is a better fish shop called The Aquarium off Outer Circle Road (the road next to Charles Warner)

As for P@H Did you tell them which size tank the fish were for? If so then report them to Trading Standadrds/ Trade descriptions and then to the RSPCA then ring the local paper. Noone likes bad press especially the big boys as they make column inches. If you do the sob story of I was going to set up a fish tank for my children....local papers are always interested in that kind of story.
