hi, if i started breeding fish where would i get rid of them? would i be able to sell them, if so where?
thanks
Lloyd

some LFS will take them, but not all.
Or for smaller scale you could probs shift them on here.
or e-bay?

Occasionally a lfs will buy fry but they will more often than not just give you some credit for when you buy other fish from them. As already said, there is eBay as an option but you have to be aware that you will probably need to be prepared to post to your buyers so you`ll have the cost of postage as well as all the packaging involved i.e box/polystyrene, heat packs etc.

It`s good that you`re asking as anyone planning on breeding any fish will end up overrun unless 'selling homework' is done before hand. :good:

Depends on the fish really. If it's something common like the popular Livebearers eg. Guppies, Mollies, Platies. Then shops will take them off you by all means but the liklihood of them buying from you is small, maybe a bit of store credit at most.

Whereas unpopular fish like some L-numbers or certain SA Cichlids may be of great interest from some fish stores and may happily buy them off you.
Normally selling fish direct to customers proves to be better if you are after making a bit of cash.

As said mate, depends really on what you choose to breed, its best firstly ensuring you can house and provide a healthy diet for the offspring, Then working out whats good to sell, for example ive made so good money so far breeding both bristlenose plecs and channa ornatipinnis, which i made very good money, but that was because they had never been bred before in captivity and everyone wanted to get there hands on the firsts....It pays to do alot of re-search prior to breeding,do not go down the guppy route, unless you plan on breeding a specific strain and ensuring you find fresh blood so to speak :good:
Ask around at fish shops before and see what they say sells well in your area, Like the bristlenose plecs i bred, there was a shortage around my area, some areas there 10 a penny

thanks for the help, i thought i would do my homework as it is defiantly needed in this hobby. dont know ho people did it without forums and the internet
i was thinking dwarf gourami at first and when i have got used to that maybe something special. :good:

Theres something called Aquabid that is like the fish ebay. I've never bought or sold anything on there though, so not sure how busy that site really gets. Worth a try though =)

Depends on what fish what quality of fish you breeding. Common easy to breed cichlids like convicts are almost impossible to get rid of. Breed a fish that is popular/ tricky to breed and is worth some money. Internet forums/ ebay/ fish clubs/ lfs is the places to sell.
