I have a 10gal tank and I was thinking of upgrading to a 30 Are canister filters better or the hang on the back ones and what are the best of both types? Would it be wise to incorporate an ultraviolet water purifier?
I am in the USA.

ya it depands what you wanna spend for a 10 gallon a hang one is better... but for a 30 i would go for a canister ... i upgraded from a 10 to 36 corner tank and need to get a filter... im looking towards eheim canisters right now. so far every one reccomends them... but for a 30 gallon the aquaclear30 is good or if you want power go for a 50..

i think the bio-wheel power filters are the best for small tanks, ie up to 30 gallons. imo a uv sterilizer is only needed if you have something like green water, as the lamps can be expensive to replace.
