Hey, yesterday I was going to wash my AQUACLEAR MINI filter and well I droped it "Smash" goes the filter! Lucky me I have a extra one in my closet!..

Now the Aquaclear one is a piece of plastic trash! Or is it?

The only things use-able are;

- media
- filter lid
- the plastic barrier around the media (the thing thats grey and sort of like a net made of plastic)
- the pump
- the suction tube thing

Thats it.. the only thing thats junk is the frame all this attaches to, but what kind of contraption should I make with all of this?

Here are some pictures! of the broken frame and the group of use-able parts.

Oh i forgot to add.. the sponge is still use-able

Doesnt look beyond a repair job to me but maybe I saw wrong :)

Looks like you could just silicone in a plastic block inside the chamber to seal it off? Or alternatively make a plastic sleeve for the outside.

No I wanna create something with it or sell the parts (like the pump)

I suppose you could make a basic sump/trickle filter as you still have the media and pump. I think if you had a plastic (food safe) container, put the media in there and use the pump to return the water it could work, you will probably be able to add more media. Do you know the rating of your pump or the head height, as this will be important if it will work or not. I would give it a go, like you said you basically got the parts, if it doesnt work you could just repair the old canister but I would be temped to try and make a wet/dry just because it would be fun if it works.

i would do as SJ2K suggests and put it to one side as an emergencey replacement. but you could use the pump to create a fountain. or a pump system for water changes.

Or you can do what I do with my spare parts. Put them in a box because "they might be useful later" and then have them take up space in a closest/spare room for the next ten years :)

Just buy a new case if you can't repair it. Silicone on the bottom, pvc cement for the cracks will fix it right up.

get a 2litre coke bottle and cut it up into plastic strips large enough to cover the gaps and cracks and then silicone it into place.

Or get some waterproof araldite compound and mix it up to fill the holes, it takes about 20 minutes to set and you can sand afterwards to smooth the edges and finish it neatly.

This is what I do...except then I lose the box when I really do need something in it...

Great Ideas I was going to try some of them but when I went to pick the pump up.. someone stepped on it last night and the propeller and the threads for screwing it on are broken (it made me so dang mad)
