what should I be feeding my cories ideally? should I get some of those tablets that sink? I've seen them mentioned frquently in posts in this forum. I feel so silly and oblivious! )
your cories need food that sinks because the other fish will eat floating food before the cories egt a chance at it. i use hikari sinking wafers and my cories love them you could also try live and frozen foods. my cories aren't good at catching live foods but tehy rather like frozen black mosquito larvae
I got the Wardley's shrimp pellets and my cories LOVE those. I feed them those once or twice a week, the rest of the time they get the bits that my other fish don't get and I make sure to feed enough that there will be some for the cories
The other fish love the shrimp pellets too, esp. the ram. It's cute. She'll come and take a nibble and the cories just hang out b/c they know that it just shakes loose a whole bunch of littler pieces they can eat.
Corys need a varied diet that is heavy with meaty food.
In addition to a good flake food or sinking wafer (Hikari sinking wafers are good) they benefit from algae wafers or spirulina discs, and live or frozen blackworms or tubifex worms. Freeze dried products can also be used as a supplement to, but not instead of the live or frozen ones.
I suggest that you buying a portion of live blackworms the next time you visit your lfs. All your fish will love them too. Any of them that do not get eaten when you first feed them will go in the gravel and your corys will have an extra snack when they get hungry. They enjoy hunting for them.
