I just noticed that my blue acaras (well actually they were sold as blues but may be Green Terrors as they have orange tail fins and were v. aggresive to thier previous tank mates) have hatched hundreds of fry. They are in their own tank and don't seem to be eating any fry- but what can I feed the fry? I dont have any brine shrimp or infusoria but have tried crushed flake which they don't appear to be eating.

Only rarely can you get fry to accept finely crushed flake food as it doesnt wiggle. Best things to go for are brineshrimp or microworms. Ive tried both and i have to say that i prefer microworms as theyre easy to set up, you get loads, and un like brineshrimp there is no real threat by using them.

Thanks for the advice; I didn't realise brine shrimp could be a risk. Think I'll order some micro worms promptly-hopefully the fry can hang on until then! They do seem to be nibbling on the wood and plants, so are clearly feeding on something in the tank.

I only meant that there is a risk ( i meant risk not threat) because of the un-hatched eggs can choke the fry. Its neigh impossible to make sure you dont get any eggs when harvesting so there is always a risk of some fry dieing.

Can get decapulised ones :fun: then it's neigh on impossible to get egg shells for the fry to choke on.

Best diet would be a mix probably, of MW and BBS.

Just thought I'd say as BBS are probably the best livefood for most fry, along with MW. So you can get both with no risk practically.
