Before I start up my tank, I have a pretty important question. What should I do when I go out of town? Chances are that I will be able to find somebody to take care of the tank, but what if I can't. In the summersI like to go away. I am usually gone for about a week. This only happens about 4-5 weeks a year, but what do I do if I can't find anybody to watch the tank??? My cousin has room for me to bring my fish to him, but will the tank be alright without me there to watch it? AND...is it a must that I bring the fish to them? Is there a way to have the tank "take care of itself"???

Maybe some stupid questions...but I thought I'd ask them.

All that needs to be done in a system for a week is to make sure its topped up fromevaporation. and also feeding (thougha week without food will not kill them)

Get an auto topup device and your problems are solved.

I would not advise trasporting fish to other houses as this will stress them unecessarily.

I would still advise that you have a neightbour or someone to check the tank daily to make sure everything is ok and running smoothly

I just got back from a 10 day vacation. I meant to leave a topoff jug for my neighbor to topoff the tank when she fed the fish, but I forgot :X Luckily, she knew not to use tap water so I just did a big topoff when I got home. She fed the fish for me (freeze dried brine shrimp are ideal, you can leave the blocks sitting right on the fish tank in pre-measured amounts so there's no overfeeding), but I have left my tank (SW and FW) alone for up to 7 days with no feeding and everything was fine.

It sounds like this is not as big of a problem as I thought it would be.
Thanks for the input!
