Okay, i have had Callamanus Worms in my tank(s) for the last ever. And, i have been treating my angels with Metro, and its not working. But, i could go and buy Levisomle ( 14 dollars a pop) and treat them with that. But, it may not work. I have a 30g tank , and 2 of the fish in there are posotivley infected. The others dont show any signs, and i have been treating with the copper since Sept. and im sure the other fish dont have it. So, should i buy the Levisomle, or euthinize the 2 angels? Please help!

If the copper isn't working in that length of time it isn't going to.

I might look at things a bit differently, as my aquatic activities are mainly oriented towards breeding. I would spend the money. If in the future some fish that are more expensive, rare, or breeders that are money makers come down with the same illness I know just where to start. I may spend $40 on $2 worth of fish, next time it may be $200 worth of fish.

John, i understand where you are comming from. But you have to understand where i am comming from. I am getting rid of the angels. Im selling them. I refuse to sell them when they are sick. I cant afford to pay money for a treatment, and have it not work. I also have noticed that one of ther angel ( another of yours) has the worm. I would love to treat them, but for me it isnt economical. And, if it did mirically work ( on all of them), and i sold them, i would only be making 1 dollar. Im just afriad the med wont work.

I was thinking Farm and Fleet. IDK. I havent done to much looking into it yet. Also, did you get the Filter in the mail today?

No filter, I don't think they deliver on Sunday.

I'm looking for an online source for levamisole, they are all call to order. My inquiring mind is wondering how well it will work, as I've never personally encountered worms that needed that med.

I have some levamisole. It came from fleet farm, like you said it was about $14 if I remember and for treating like 200 head of swine . It works quite well IMO, I treat all new fish with it while they are in quarantine. It appears to be a quite effective and mild med, since even sentive fish have seemed un bothered by it. I've experienced two problem are encountered using levamisole, first heavily infected fish tend to die. I think this might be because of the removal of the parasites can cause damage to the fish internally. Second it is hard to measure proper dosage :/ . The stuff fleet farm sells contains 20.17 g of medication. On my little bottle I wrote ".09g treats 10gal", which is a dosage I pulled off the web somewhere. I use a metric scale to measure it, which isn't something most U.S. homes have. Either way it's a very small amount.

In the end it's up to you. If they are heavily infected or looking weak then I would euthanize them. If you think they might make it, I can mail you some levamisole. It expires 11/09 and there is no way I can use all I have left by then.

You're thinking the same as I am Mikaila. I'm interested to see how well it works with angels, having never encountered it personally, and one of the fish I sold seems to need it. UPS ground is generally cheap shipping, for a few dollars I'll learn something.

I've heard that it is often used to treat wild caught cichlids, particularly discus, as a precautionary measure. I found a math heavy article on calculating the dosage here; http://www.loaches.com/disease-treatment/l...hydrochloride-1

Yeah thats the site I got the dosage from. I bought it when I first encountered Callamanus Worms. I've been treating my new fish with it for over a year now. Figured I might as well use it sense I got it and it only takes 24hrs to complete the treatment. I add it the day before a scheduled water change, then clean the tank down and do a very large water change the next day. It's best to use a bare bottom tank when treating.

Although all my fish go through one treatment. I do keep a closer eye on known wild caught fish, since they are more likely to carry internal parasites.

See, the fish arent weak at all. I forgot to mention, i have 5 incfected angels. 2 Albino's have it, and 1 Half Black, and 1 Yellow Dalmation ( Tolak's), and one Beautiful Veil Tailed Dalmation ( Tolak's). So, you put it in the water, and not in the food? I was under the assumption that all meds that treat internal parasites had to be eaten.

No it goes in the water. It does not kill the parasites, but instead paralyzes them and allows the fish to pass them out. They will remain paralyzed as long as the med is in the water. As soon as it is removed or the concentration is dropped its effects wear off. That is why it is required to clean the tank as thoroughly as possible and do a very large, as close to 100% water change as you can. The goal is to remove the paralyzed worms. If your fish for sure have them then I would suggest a couple doses 4-7 days apart from each other. And keep water quality very good during treatment. You need to keep in mine that the removal of the parasites is probably going to cause damage internally. I've always thought of it like when you remove a leach and the more parasites the more damage.

Ohh, okay. Now i get it. I wasnt sure it worked. Now, will the Copper in the water Kill the Parasite after it gets passed through the fishes system?

As far as I am aware copper is only really effective against parasites with a exoskeleton or a hard shell. I doubt it would have much effect on internal worms.
