I'm not sure what to do with my guppies and 3 platies. My water is much too soft for them. I got them before I knew that and they kept reproducing. I dont have a way to harden the water right now and my LFS and the chain pet stores arent taking fish because of the coronavirus.

I wont euthanize them, they are as healthy as can be expected in these conditions

I say just keep them.

No one is going to buy them off of Craigslist anyway. And your LFS won’t take them.

I dont want to keep them in an environment not suitable for them. My dad wants to get a koi pond, if we do I'd toss them in there as feeders

Do you have any friends or relatives who have hard water and are willing to take them? Can't you sell them on Aquabid or Craigslist?

I dont, everyone nearby is softwater. I could try aquabid.

Is there a way to harden the water with rock salt?

Well if you not have a suitable environment for them, why did you get them in the first place?

You can try throwing some crushed corals.
That is what I was going to recommend. Although I must say, most Aquarists use crushed coral as an actual substrate. (This always it to harden the water more.)

You would have to have a LOT of crushed coral to do what you want to do.

I mentioned in post #1 that I got them well before I knew, I got the original four 4 years ago and they kept reproducing. The platies were accidental hitchhikers

How on earth can platies be hitchhikers? That makes no sense.

I suggest you look more into fish, before getting them.

Lol yes I know, I got them when I was 12 and was still a learner.
I do look into fish bsfore buying them, at that point I was still on my first tank and didnt know not to listen to pet store employees.

The platies were new born fry that tagged along when I bought my rummynose.

I suggest from now on to look thoroughly in the bag that you buy your fish in for any hitchhikers. I know that accidents can happen, but these kind should not.

I still don’t recommend throwing them out.

I have looked thoroughly since then, I saw them after I got home tossed them in the tank and they grew up.

If we get the pond I will put them in there

I still don’t recommend that.

If you don’t want them, euthanize them. There is no point in letting them be eaten and possibly “tortured” by the koi. They might even starve to death.

It's the circle of life. With the koi being so large it wont be bad. My adult gups eat the fry too. Its healthy for the adults
