Hello all, Well let me start with what this post is about. I am looking for suggestions on what to do with my 55 gallon. Well about a month ago i lost my beautiful breeding pair of discus to internal parasites :-( :-( :-( and then i went on vacation and came home to find that my co2 system failed and most of my plants had started to go to crap. So now i have an empty 55 gallon with a few great pieces of driftwood. I plan on keeping my two biggest koi angels and selling the rest of my fish. So i am starting from scratch and am looking for ideas. i got a new co2 system and am going to stay with the planted side of the hobby. So i am open to any suggestions on what to do as for stocking.

Thanks for the opinions.

And here is a pic of my breeding pair that i lost :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Sorry for your loss, they were a stunning pair. If not discus again, what about a Krobia sp. or one of the checker board cichlids?

I have decided against discus as i was tired of all the water changes lol. Not to mention that it would cost 300$ for a school of juviniles. I am thinking more along the lines of a pair of dwarf cichlids and a school of some sort of tetra. I am also looking into something more colorful.

Bleeding Heart Tetras
White Fin Bentosi Tetras
Red Phantom Tetra
Black Phantom Tetra
Rummynose Tetra (but personally i think they are boring as everyone has them :p )
Volcano Rasbora (if you can find them)
Emerald Eye Rasbora

Loads of dwarf cichlids out there that look great!

I really like the Nannacara aureocephalus (sp) or Nannacara anomola, Dicrossus filamentosus (sp) and Laetacara curviceps and several others. There are far more interesting species out there than rams, kribensis and apistogrammas :p

I was actually looking in to getting a school of maybe 10-15 long finned black phantom tetras but j thougt the angels might be to nippy.

You could do a kind of amazon biotope for tetras and corys, that would be cool. I saw a video on youtube of tetras in the wild, and a snapshot of that would make a great tank. I will see if I can find it and send you the link

Check out these 2 videos of Tetras and Corys in the wild for a little inspiration. The section from 1:45 through 2:00 on the Tetra video is really nice IMO......

Just did the cleanout of the tank. Heres a pic. Not a great pic but it shows the great pieces of driftwood i put together.

You planning plants again Mark?
Yes ! ...i actually just got back from the fish store with some baby corys and a beautiful pair of eb blue rams :). I also got a few plants to start off with. Ill post some pic later tonight.

Nice start Mark. I am building a S. American Biotope for Angels. I thought about narrowing in on a specific location like Peru, but it turns out there are not as many plant options in S. American biotopes, opposed to an Asian Biotope. Unless I am just having a hard time finding them.

What is the plant around the wood? I am doing dwarf sag as a carpet, but taming it so the cories have free sand. What cories do you have?
