Is this a parasite, what kind, and how do I get rid of it.

Hello and welcome to the forum, can we have your water parameters? What food you give to them?

Water chemistry is good. Research revealed that parasites are common in livebearers (I could be using term incorrectly). I was told that this was a parasite and began a treatment regiment. So far everyone is still alive. Betta bites, and flakes that have been replaced with bloodworms.

It looks like worms, whether it’s intestinal or a tapeworm I am not sure and one of the experts will be able to tell you that. What are your actual water parameters exactly and have you noticed anyone else like this? You will have to treat the whole tank but depending on the worm depends on the medication.

Nitrite and nitrate 0 ppm, pH 7.4, Ammonia 0 ppm, T = 78 - 80. Using a broad spectrum treatment as I was told that parasitic issues often co-occur with other issues.

Do you mean that you've stopped feeding betta bits and flakes and now only feed bloodworm?
Bloodworms are not very nutritious and contain a lot of fat. They should be fed sparingly, maybe once a week as a treat. The betta bites and flake are a much better food.

Yes that’s exactly what I meant. But I switched back to the bites and flakes tonight. I really appreciate you saying something though because I was still on the fence about what to feed and for a couple of days withheld the flakes and bites - yes I am new to this but willing and wanting to learn from more seasoned aquarists

I’m dying to know what that is. Tapeworm? @Colin_T??? I have very little experience with parasites. Fortunately, never had any.
It was definitely a parasite and I wish didn’t have the experience! This was my first. I recently added new fish (3 tetras of which came from a bad batch died within a week). The 4/5 treatment is tomorrow after 5, a wc and a new filter. It seems to be working I’m happy to say

Asked my.vet friend and Found out it was a round worm and treat with levamisole. Gross!

If you change the filter media within the first six weeks you lose beneficial bacteria.

I used a 5 day treatment “Tetra’s Lifeguard all in 1”. Everyone seems happy now!
