What is this thing? Should I be concerned?

The first photo looks like a moulted shrimp skin (white and hollow) but the second photo looks like a dead shrimp.

Exactly what I was thinking, so a bit confused...

I hope that wasn't a moulted skin. From what I understand, they eat them to replenish the nutrients from moulting.

I see....the coloring of the shrimp in the 2 pics is so drastically different, that's what had me confused

Molts are almost always white, dead shrimp usually have a pinkish opaqueness

Yes, always leave molts in the tank, contributes calcium to the water column...I'll clean up dead snails, and leave their shells in a tank, as well

That's good to know. Next time I'll leave it there. I hope the shrimp can replenish it's nutrients without the moult this time.

Should be fine, if the shrimp are growing (molting), then there's an adequate amount of minerals in the tank

The dead shrimp looks almost as if it died from "white ring of death" syndrome (the middle of it's body looks constricted)
