Hey all...
The other day I was walking my dog when she stopped, scratched at something on the sidewalk, sniffed then proceeded to roll her entire body over the spot. She did this a few times before I could see what it was... looked like some dried bird poop

Anyone have ideas as to what she she doing... or more more importanly WHY?? -_-

Disgusting (to us !) as it is, it's entirel normal I'm afraid

"It's believed that they do this in order to mask their scent and disguise themselves, thus increasing their chances of a successful sneak attack upon their prey. Even if your dog does not hunt, she may not like the way that she smells—especially if you’ve just given her a bath! Or she just likes the smell of the feces."

Hmm.. .interesting! I did just give her a bath earlier that day. -_- And here I thought she smelled so pretty :p

thanks for the info!

Ahh that's another classic case when they do it !
To mask their smell ;)

Yep, my dog did that in some duck poop when we were camping last weekend. What she didn't realise was that I had packed the dog shampoo just in case!

my dog always does it when she comes across a rotting seagull carcass on the beach

I often wonder if it was only my dumb dog doing things like this, but not I see that my dog isnt the only one.

My dogs favour dead rodents, which has always scared me. Dakarai wiggled his way through a mouse and Kaija started chewing on one before I swooped down on them . . . :X

Just the other day Molli found a rat that had been hit by a car and she nearly fainted she was so excited, but I got her back before she made contact. Rabies shots are as gold to me . . . :D

My Corgi does this all the time when I walk him, he loves to do roll in the grass and on the carpet, and sometimes rolls in the driveway, puttin his neck down first then the rest of his body.

Yeah, after we get my dog cleaned she runs to the lawn and rolls in it. :X
DOH! Clover is her fav! :p

My Westie used to roll in mud on the way out from the dog trimmers! It used to drive the woman mad. She also used to like animal droppings(we live in the country and foxes and badgers cross our garden). And obviously she was a white dog!
